Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has accused the Congress of politicising the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleging that the party is creating unnecessary controversy over the exercise because it affects its electoral calculations.

Questioning the Congress's stand, Shekhawat pointed out that SIR had been conducted ten times during Congress-led governments. He asked why the exercise was considered a constitutional responsibility when Congress was in power but is now being portrayed as irregular under the BJP government.

Shekhawat alleged that Congress was using the SIR issue to create confusion and unrest, rather than raising genuine concerns about the democratic process.

He further claimed that the party begins questioning democratic procedures whenever its electoral calculations are affected.

The Union Minister challenged Congress to clarify its objections to the voter roll revision exercise and explain the difference between its approach during its tenure and its current criticism.
