Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) would be beneficial not only for Goa but also for India, as Goan cashews, coconuts and other agricultural products could gain access to overseas markets without additional tariffs.

Chouhan, who interacted with Goan farmers, said he would work on promoting coconut and cashew production during his next visit to Goa. He also assured that officials from the Coconut Development Board would accompany him to take forward initiatives related to coconut production.

During his visit, Chouhan also launched the ‘Goa Fresh’ brand to promote agricultural products from the state.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said Goa has transformed from importing vegetables from Karnataka to exporting vegetables to the neighbouring state. He said vegetable production in Goa has increased significantly in recent years, with the government highlighting substantial growth in production and exports.

Sawant said the government has reached out to around 52,400 farmers, connecting them with basic facilities and various agricultural schemes. He also highlighted initiatives aimed at empowering farmers and promoting Nari Shakti.

The Chief Minister said Goa’s vegetables and other agricultural produce will also be exported to foreign markets through Mopa Airport. A dedicated warehouse is being developed at the airport to facilitate the export of agricultural produce.

Sawant urged farmers to increase cultivation and production to meet growing demand in domestic and international markets.
