BJP spokesperson Yatish Naik hit out at the Congress over its criticism of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, saying the opposition party was “running out of issues.”

Naik also questioned the Congress-led alliance’s decision to change its earlier name from the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) to the INDIA bloc.

“Why did Congress change the name of the alliance?” Naik asked, alleging that the UPA had been rejected by voters. He described the INDIA Alliance as “the same old wine in a new bottle.”

On the SIR exercise, the BJP said the revision was undertaken to ensure that every eligible voter is included in the electoral roll while preventing the inclusion of ineligible voters.

The party maintained that the Election Commission of India conducted the exercise in accordance with the law and rejected criticism directed at the poll panel.

“We condemn such attacks,” the BJP said, defending the Election Commission and its handling of the electoral roll revision process.
