Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao has expressed confidence that the Congress will emerge victorious in the 2027 Goa Assembly elections, predicting that a grand opposition alliance could result in 75% of BJP MLAs and ministers losing their seats.

Speaking on Head On, Alemao said Congress was preparing for the elections with a clear strategy and would announce its candidates before any other political party.

“Our candidates will be declared before those of any other party,” he said, describing the party as a new Congress that intends to strengthen its grassroots presence and reach voters directly.

Alemao said alliance discussions with the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) were on track and that a Common Minimum Programme had already been finalised. He also said he had no problem with Goa Forward Party president Vijai Sardesai, indicating his willingness to work with opposition leaders to take on the BJP.

“With a grand opposition alliance, 75% of BJP MLAs and ministers will lose the election,” Alemao claimed.
Earlier, Alemao had predicted that the BJP would be decimated in Goa and said he could see Congress winning 27 seats in the 2027 Assembly elections.

Reiterating the party’s election target, Alemao said Congress was confident of winning all 27 seats it was targeting.
“This is not the old Congress; this is a new Congress,” he said, adding that the party would begin its next phase of outreach after the Goy Rakhonn Yatra, with the Gaon Rakhonn Yatra scheduled to start in November.

He said the party would focus on booth-level organisation and door-to-door outreach to connect with voters across Goa.
Alemao also appealed to Goans to support Congress and give the party a full majority. He said the party wanted an alliance with every Goemkar and maintained that he had no differences with anyone in the Opposition.

“I appeal to every Goan to trust the Congress party and give us a full majority. No one will defect,” he said.
On the issue of the Kunbi shawl presented to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Alemao said the priority should be granting reservation to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) community.

“Before speaking about the Kunbi shawl presented to Rahul Gandhi, first provide reservation to the ST community,” he said.
