The Goa government has told the High Court that the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Sada should remain at its existing location, describing the Maratha king as a legendary figure and an integral part of Goan history.
In an affidavit filed before the High Court, the Chief Secretary stated that the government intends to retain the statue at the present site and will follow due legal procedures to purchase the land allegedly encroached upon by the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA).
The affidavit comes amid the ongoing dispute over the statue's location and the land on which it stands.
The High Court is scheduled to hear the matter on November 3, when further proceedings in the case are expected to take place.
