Vijay Marine Blast: Death Toll Rises To Five

The death toll in the Vijay Marine Shipyard explosion at Loutolim has risen to five after another injured worker succumbed to his injuries at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim.

The victims have been identified as:

• Sher Ali (resident of Zuarinagar, native of West Bengal)

• Vinod Kumar and Santosh Kumar (both from Chhattisgarh)

• Manish Chauhan (Uttar Pradesh)

• Abhishek Kumar

Two other workers are still undergoing treatment for injuries sustained in the blast.

Earlier, three workers had lost their lives in the incident, while several others sustained injuries of varying severity.

In connection with the explosion, Safety Manager Raju Bora has been arrested on charges of alleged negligence leading to the deaths of the workers.

Following the incident, the South Goa Collector has ordered the sealing of the shipyard and requested a detailed report on the circumstances surrounding the explosion. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the blast and ensure the safety of remaining personnel.
