The body of Akash Vishwakarma (31), a native of West Bengal, was recovered on Thursday morning after an intensive overnight search operation at the Salvador do Mundo–Socorro creek, where he went missing following a road accident on Wednesday night.

The incident occurred at around 8:00 pm when Akash was riding a Jawa motorcycle across a narrow culvert at Salvador do Mundo–Socorro. According to preliminary information, the motorcycle allegedly brushed against a Vespa scooter, causing him to lose balance and plunge into the creek along with the vehicle.

Residents in the area immediately alerted the emergency services, following which personnel from the Goa Fire and Emergency Services, Goa Police and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rushed to the spot and launched a search operation.

Rescue teams searched the creek until around 2:00 am but were unable to locate the missing rider. The operation was suspended due to darkness and resumed at 6:30 am on Thursday, with NDRF personnel, Fire Services and police conducting an extensive search in and around the creek.

After several hours of searching, the rescue teams recovered Akash Vishwakarma's body from the creek, bringing the operation to a tragic conclusion.

Police have initiated further investigation into the incident, while the exact sequence of events leading to the accident is being verified.
