The Public Astronomical Observatory in Panaji, currently managed by the Association of Friends of Astronomy (NGO), is confronting operational challenges following its forced relocation from the terrace of Junta House. As the historic Junta House building undergoes redevelopment and reconstruction, the observatory was transferred to a new facility in St. Inez. However, the temporary structure provided on the new terrace covered with corrugated tin sheets, fails to meet the functional and structural requirements needed to properly house and operate the astronomical equipment.
Speaking on the issue, Satish Nayak, President of the Association of Friends of Astronomy, highlighted the ongoing difficulties caused by the inadequate setup. The NGO now faces further disruption as authorities have requested another shift, leaving the region's prominent public astronomical observatory in a state of uncertainty regarding a permanent, suitable location.
