Belagavi: Senior IPS officer from Karnataka Hemant M Nimbalkar has been appointed as Commissioner, Department of Information & Public Relations. According to a government order that was issued on Monday, the study leave that was granted to Mr Nimbalkar was cancelled with immediate effect. Smt Vinoth Priya a senior IAS officer who was holding a concurrent charge has been relieved.

Hemant Nimbalkar is a 1998 batch IPS officer and has served Government of Karnataka at various senior posts. He has also served as Superintendent of Police, Belagav and had busted a major drug trade racket between Belagavi and Goa in May 2007 seizing marijuana worth Rs. 22 crores arresting four persons including one from Goa.

The post of Commissioner, Department of Information & Public Relations, Bengaluru is declared equivalent in status and responsibilities to the cadre post of Inspector General of Police, Southern Range, Mysuru under Rule 12 of IPS (Pay) Rules 2016 as included in Schedule 11 of the said rules.

Mr Nimbalkar has an excellent rapport with his Goan couterparts including bureaucrats. The relationship between Karnataka and Goa are likely to get a major boost with him at the helm of public relations.
